My brother and a friend have just been refused entry on the grounds that 3 weeks ago they were not allowed in, and then went on to kick the door of The Marlborough Arms. Supposedly a female member of staff then came running out, screaming for help.
Seems strange that this 'happened' as my brother hasn't been in cruise for about two months, and the week of the accusation (3 weeks ago) he was at home all week prior to a trip to Greece.

For what is supposedly Chester's premiere club, I understand arrogance from a club that knows it'll make money no matter what. But turning down genuine custom is hardly the way to increase market share.

Not impressed. This seems much the same to the usual choice doorman seem to take when a group of males queue up. You either don't get in at all, or some do and some don't.

I was on a Hen Do me and ten girls were were really looking forward to going to Cruise as it looked amazing. When we got to the door we were approached by a member of staff who said that our hen had to remove all her hen stuff and we did as they said its procedure. We were very disapointed as no one would know we were on a hen night. The funny thing is our bags did not get searched nor did we get body searched so you could have got away with taking drugs in with you no problem!! Also another disapointing thing was that there was no seating! basically you had to be VIP to sit down it was rediculas, I had to go to to the loo just to sit down and rest my feet. Other to that it was ok.

Cruise is just amazing.
Have been there twice on Christmas dos this week, once midweek and then at the weekend. These were my first visits to the club.
The atmosphere was buzzing, there was live music in the front bar as we arrived on Saturday, the admission price was pretty high for Chester, but seeing the gig that was going on made it worth it immeditately.
We felt welcome from the moment we walked in, the door staff were polite, the girls in the lobby were all smiling and clearly enjoying themselves, chatty and helpful to everyone.
The bar staff were efficient and even advised me on a new mixer to try with my usual vodka! Its my new favourite!
I had a look around all the rooms, each so different but beautiful in their own way, haven't decided which is may favourite yet....can't wait to go back again to make that call!!!
New Year there is def on the cards for us and all our friends. Where else is there>!?

Matt commented on 20th December 2008

I think cruise is massively over-rated to be honest. The best night is a Monday as its not a rip-off and its got below an average atmosphere most nights.

I get promotion emails and messages on facebook telling me how the events the week before were a massive hit and how the place was heaving, which are always lies! Its never as busy as it makes out.

The bouncers, similar to the bouncers in Rosies, are basicly tossers! I understand them not wanting to let in scruffy little shits but I've been dressed smartly: shoes, pants, shirt, tie and cardigan and told i'm dressed too casually, WHAT? They just pick and choose whether they like the look of you and if your worthy of entering.

Inside is very nice and sophisticated, miles better than the sweaty dive that is RB's (rosies), but it has no atmosphere and you always feel as if the doormen are watching over you to pounce the moment you do something they deem unnacceptable. I went last week and saw a guy around 35years old kicked out for being dropping his drink accidently.

Cruise needs to become slightly more lax on the door policy to get the extra people in there needed to make the place have a good atmosphere. Over 21's on a weekend doesn't help the club much either, not everybody 18-21 is a student and can go out during the week.

Jamie commented on 17th December 2008

Fantasic night we had, we went in on tuesday night in all our UV cloths and had the best evening ever.

matt commented on 12th December 2008

sorry to say but the atmosphere is shit and music is always terrible and hit and miss whether you get in or not with the pain in arse bouncers. i got in in a t shirt then went again a few weeks later and was refused because of no shirt, well im sorry but i wont let any club dictate what i wear on a night out especially when a smart t shirt jeans and shoes is fine everywhere else, you guys need to lighten up a bit and just maybe the club will actually be full for once and sack that dj, this is the oppinion of many people ive spoken to about your club so please take this advice on board, sorry if im going on a little but its bloody annoying to have a night ruined by door staff and poor music, Matt

Shell commented on 4th December 2008

I agree with all the 1 star. The club is ok but not worth the money and the staff are awful. They don't serve you if they dont like your face. As for lads if they dont like there face they dont get in. Unfair.
My friends have been thrown out with no explaination. One friend (a girl) had her toilet door kicked in! Thrown out on her own. She could have been raped.
Also bouncer think its ok to stare at you and think they are in for a chance, get a grip i mean the only girls that go for them are stupid under aged ones.

Laura commented on 20th, November 2008

Was a bit wary after reading comments on this site but went along last Saturday anyway...what are you bunch of complaining jobs worths on about?

I'd like to thank the bouncers and manager for not letting in the pikey chavs that were infront of us in the queue! Also thank you for looking after my friend Michelle who got a bit too drunk...
Had an awesome night, we were treated like adults and with respect, even though my friend made an idiot of herself. Bar staff were a right laugh even when they were rushed off their feet. Loads of drinks to choose from! Like 10 different rums, millions of vodkas and I've never seen a club that had so many different beers all at reasonable prices!
Bouncers booked a taxi for us when it was time to leave, we were allowed to wait in the front bar. Was amazed when they said that our names would come up on the T.V screens when our taxi was ready for us! Was great seeing as though I HATE waiting in the cold horrible weather for a taxi!
Loving the new fangled technology Cruise!
Bugger you Rosies with your boring same old same old! Your 20years behind on this lot!
Cruise is definately the place to be!xx

Paula commented on 19th, November 2008

What a cool club, been away for a while in Leeds where we're spoilt for choice for nights out, come to Chester which is usually lousy and was totally spoilt rotten in this fab club!
Do you know, for a VIP booth on a thursday, all you have to do is call and ask?!!?! me and my 9 mates were treated like Queens after just one phone call!!! My birthday tickets gave me free bubbly and we boogied the night away.
you just try and drag me anywhere else in chester and I'll chew your arm off!

Siobhan commented on 19th, November 2008

LOL!! Did anybody go to Cruise on Friday 14th Nov when they had Signature from Britains got talent performing?!
HAHA was bloody excellent!
Thats what I call good quality entertainment!

sian morris commented on 19th, November 2008

ive been workin at cruise for 2 weeks now as i have been tranferred here from a pub, an i have to say the deals on student night are amazing, you wont find a double vodka red bull cheaper in town, the staff are really nice and welcoming and are always up for a laugh with locals and students (including me) if your looking for a good night minus fights and silly people this is the place to come!!
have fun! xx

Steve Jones commented on 17th November 2008

I have been reading the reviews for Cruise and I would have to disagree with a lot of them. I regularly attend Cruise and have always been well treated by the door staff and bar staff.
Its not hard to make an effort fellas, shirt and shoes isnt exactly hard and to be honest the ladies love a well dressed man.
I cant really comment on the student nights as I have never been but who on earth thinks £2 a drink is expensive?
As for the comment on the range of drinks they stock have you noticed that they have over 10 bottled beers and shit loads of vodka, sambuca, sourz and they do stock Bud because that is what I drink when I'm there.
If I was you I'd give it another chance, chill out a bit and enjoy yourself!!

Clairey C commented on 17th November 2008

OH MY GOD..I can't believe the reviews on this site, they are so WRONG!!!! I've been Cruise 10 times now, I bloody love the BEANS Mondays, cheap as chips and now they are adding more drinks offers....you know they are sending a message of love!!!!

Terrible night club. Rude staff and the bouncers pick trouble with everyone.

Stay away from this club.

Tom commented on 16th November 2008

Went to the club on Sat night last week what a top night with DJs from London the music was ace. With all the rooms its like going to lots of bars and clubs in 1 night.

Jen commented on Friday, 14th November 2008

opened in a blaze of glory, every night has flopped except the weekend nights and the student night. Even the Friday nights are flagging big time, The Student nights are just not fun enough and are way way way tooooo expensive, the indie night flopped, the big rival wednesday to the official student night flopped, even Hed Kandi flopped, (oh and a massive new Sunday night flopped too.) they don't always open during the day now. and when you get to the bar the whole experience goes pear shaped, the bars are too small (so you wait an age) the brands are rubbish, ie VHF & Miller (rather than WKD & Bud) none of the bar staff know how to make a cocktail and they always run out of glasses for champagne! Finally, the only night i used to go regularly was Monday's , even then they tried to dictate what time you had to be in the club making rules about being in before 10 etc. well its all back firing now, people cant be bothered with rushing to get there early so now just give it a !
miss or think its going to be full at 11! this monday i reckon that there was only 500 people in the club even though the capacity is 2000ish , but ill still get facebook messages from the promoters to say it was another lockout! (please stop lieing and insulting our intelligence as we are students which means we have an odd brain cell). So now as the Mondays are flagging too they've started to discount the drinks. well even this is a bit of a porkie, because the cheapest drink is still two quid they just do vodka red bull and cocktails for 2 quid rather than a tenner ! I think this is a massive white elephant and cruise will sail of into the memory before toooo long hopefully....

Rob commented on 13th, October 2008

Yet another example of bored boucers who think it makes them look big if they turn away a couple of people they don't like the look of.

Most of us got in ok (7 out of 8), but one of my friends got turned away for wearing boots!!! They weren't steel toe-capped Doc Martins - just smart plain black laceless boots. Also, we're hardly a group of trouble makers - all smartly dressed, late 20's to early 30's, 50-50 split of blokes and women etc.! It's not like we'd turned up sporting caps, white trainers and tracksuits with the bottoms tucked into our socks!

Another friend got in wearing smart, dark leather trainers, but the guy in front of him (not with our group) was refused entry for wearing the exact same footwear! We actually suspect this may have been racially motivated, but obviously can't prove it! In the end, we all left - the best thing about the place was that they did allow those of us that had paid to get a refund!

The entry policy at Cruise is a joke! This is not the sort of place Chester needs, it already has a reputation of being up its own arse, without adding another venue where entry is down to the lottery of whether or not the bouncer likes the look of you!

I was thinking of going to the Halloween party, but they probably will stop someone going in for wearing the wrong type of witch hat or something equally ridiculous!

Yes Rosies is over priced and poorly decorated, but it does provide some good old fashioned cheesy fun! Also, these days the dress policy is pretty relaxed.

Be very careful if you're planning on going to Cruise for a night out - it would be wise to have a back up plan!

Danny Wood commented on 7th, October 2008

I am not to sure about this alleged professionalism the bouncers have: no visible badges, inconsiderate attitudes and so on.
There is pride in your place of work but there is a line one that your ego should not cross, i appreciate this may be a generalization but over the 2x i have been to cruise my experience with the door-staff has been pretty underwhelming, though i can appreciate the boredom involved being a "crowd controller" in such a SEDATE environment such as chester.
The Club itself is not too bad if a bit overrated, It came to expectations, the decor is tasteful, lighting adequate, the music was a bit to "mashed up" for my taste but listenable, service was ok or rather reasonable for the number of customers.

but there is certainly something missing.

Disappointing.

Jimmy Dagger commented on 23rd, September 2008

This place is excatly what Chester does not need!! Another shit want a be pertentious wank hole. I'm going there tonight for my birthday. The sole pupose to entertain myself at the manager ( who sounds like a right prick, kicking people out because he doesn't like their cloths. who the fuck does this guy think he is??. reality check buddy, your in fucking small town chester. get a grip of your ego.) and the rest of his dumb ass think your ace staff. no oofence to the genral staff just stupid drag your knuckles across the floor doormen with the mentality of a retared cave man. what chester needs is a large laid back indie club. like 42's in manchester. some where you can go and not get treated like terroist for having the nerve to even think about not wearing a shirt and smart pants. cant wait for everyone to get over this bull shit hype and just watch this place turn into the new rosies. nothing more than a meat market for people with about as much class or taste as jade go!
oding or some other daft celeb cum guzzler.

god it's good to have a rant.

Dolland commented on 6th, September 2008

great club once you are allowed in, got knocked back the first time because i didnt have a shirt on, however i was wearing a smart jumper which the small "cherry picking" manager said he "didnt like" and that was the reason i wasnt allowed in!!- he's a proper knob! other that that the club it's self is turbo cool, lots of good looking people, nice atmosphere!!

Zico commented on 6th, September 2008

Complete and utter rubbish. Paid for a booth and "VIP" treatment which i couldnt use apparently according to "bouncer" i had not paid for it. Didnt think much of the place full stop, music is dire, place is overated.

Bouncers all seem to be brain dead thugs many of whom look for trouble and last time i saw chests that puffed up they were attached to pigeons

Really enjoyed the Cruise experience. Bar staff were really freindly & so to were the security staff which is always a good sign. The atmosphere was fantastic with a good mixture of age groups. The dress code was mixed to i myself wore shoes pin stripes and a formal shirt which was not necassary as some of the lads were wearing smart jeans and casual shirts. The 80s room was heaving with everyone dancing on that amazing lit up dance floor wow it was like a huge rubix cube, dancing on it is a must. And if your in to dance music then the floor below offers clubbers a fantastic night with new and oldskool tunes pumping away, all in all one excellent night out, go on try it you won,t be dissapointed A1.

after reading the reports from various people we were quite wary of what we'd see, or if we'd get passed the doormen!!!!
i rang up and managed to get on the que jump list which ended up being a que in the que jump que!!! but we got in quite quickly, and was an achievement for the hen to get in free- so thankyou very much, coz she was chuffed to bits!!
doormen are just doing ther jobs, so they were very professional and afficient- well done lads!!! i used to run a club and keeping you boys in line is a job in its self!!!
we all would definately visit gain and spread the word,
friendly staff, smart, brilliant music, alot of thought has gone into this venue- a breath of fresh air, well done. c u soon.xx

The music is embarrassing, make no bones about it.
and whats all this no drinks on the top dancefloor malarky? you get everyone standing around the dancefloor necking their drinks so that they can get on there and boogie with about 3 other people who arent drinking.
you feel as if you cant have a laugh in there as the bouncers stand around the dancefloor looking to chuck anyone out who cracks half a smile.

very disappointed....i thought the days of not being able to get into a club b'cos your face doesn't fit was gone, sadly i was wrong. the smug little man on the door did not like our group and refused us twice, it was my birthday too. we're not rowdy or trashy, all of us dressed to the nines. but alas we did not look like the rest of the clones in the queue that were getting in which tbh is hardly a bad thing, who wants to look like everyone else. also we heard from the men handing out flyers at the top of the road that they saw a girl running up the street in tears because they wouldn't let her in cos she was fat!!
i am still intrigued about the inside of the club but i have princples so i doubt i'll get to see inside

Laura commented on 28th, May 2008

Problem not solved, Glen has left and is now djing in his bedroom!! and he has taken all his records! if anyone sees the man with the sax, ask him please come back!

Tim commented on 25th, May 2008

I'm sure the inside of this club is very nice, I wouldn't know though as I was not allowed to go in, not once but twice! I suspected that a new club like this would run some sort of a dress code (but there was no mention of one on the website), so before I left i sent an email to the address supplied on the website, explaining what I was planning on wearing (smart t-shirt, smart jeans & shoes) and If it would be suitable to get in. They replied quickly and told me I would be fine to get in as long as my t-shirt was smart, which is fair enough and what I was expecting. I got to the club, bouncer at the front of the queue, "Sorry, no t-shirts, come back in a shirt and we will let you in". This particularly hard to take, not just because of the email they sent me, but because the girl in front walked straight in wearing what can only be described as a bikini top, hot pants and fish net stockings (but since when did men and women get treated fairly in situations like this?)
As it happends I knew a friend of a friend who could lend me a shirt for the night, so after a quick trip to change into a shirt we were back at the front of the queue again. Bouncer- (same one as before) "Sorry, those shoes are too casual!" Too casual? they were black shoes, not trainers, black shoes. The two girls infront were wearing casual shoes, one was in a pair of strappy sandels, the other in a pair of flip flops. But that didn't bother the bouncers, they got in with no problem and I'm sure they had a great time inside.
I know places like this need to have some kind of a code, if i was wearing trainers and a tracksuit I would expect to be told where to go, but last night when I left the queue for the second time i felt hugely discriminated against and my night out with friends was souered somewhat. The bouncers on the door did not have rules to follow, they were picking and choosing who they wanted to let in and who they just didnt like the look of. There was nothing wrong with what I was wearing, I knew that, the people behind me in the queue knew that, and the bouncers knew that too, they just didnt like the look of me. As it turns out, they wont have to look at me again, because I definately will not be making a return visit.
So for anyone planning a night out in Chester, either turn up to CRUISE with your shoes polished, your shirt tucked in and your coat in the car (did I mention they don't lilke jackets?) or failing that go to REFLEX, the music was like cheese on toast but we had a fun time, which is what it's all about. (Isn't it?)

top place its about time goodbye r&bs

Lisa commented on 19th, May 2008

The new venue look great however the entrance rules are silly, when in the queue on sat night the bouncer said I could not go in because I had a visible tattoo, who doesn't these days, very disappointing!! Although there were other people with tattoos that got passed the bouncers!! Be consistant!!

Problem solved - a decent DJ has now been employed for the Svenska room. Just when I was about to give up on the place they appear to have saved it! Glen is DJing this Saturday and he will include a mix of dance and RnB!! If you are a member of facebook he can take requests via email (as in cruise he will be enclosed in a glass box!) - so get your music selected now!

Laura commented on 13th, May 2008

What a let down..... really nice venue, everything finished to the finest quality HOWEVER what is the music all about? Every bar (except Britain) plays the same background/ elevator music and in Svenska, well where do I start? I was really looking forward to some decent dance or RnB but the music was drab. Everyone in there was feeling really awkward and I began yawning because it was so boring and nondescript. To top it off, a man playing the Saxophone turned up and made it even less of a club night. If you are going to have a 'dancefloor' make it appealing and at the very least make it so that the customers can make requests! (The DJ in Svenska is behind glass and impossible to speak to!)Rosies may be a dive but at least you can have a dance to a variety of music! Lets see how long it lasts? Very disappointed!

Amazing!!A Touch of class at last!, I had a great night and the doormen were nice too for a change!
I love the manhattan room !
No more dreaded nights out in Wrexham for me.

A veteran of the club scene.Don't miss this one. Excellent themes and so far the punters seem relaxed and happy to dance drink and play. The door staff are friendly helpful & professional especially Garth (One sound guy). Keep the riff raff out, maintain a dress code to some degree and this should remain a hit place for many years until someone opens up a club on the moon!

The correct beer for the Bangkok Bar would be Singha Beer - available everywhere - even at Tesco! I have been to the real Bangkok many times, being married to a Thai lady, and that is what everybody drinks (trickled over a glass of ice). A clean, sharp taste. Perfect!

Leigh commented on 2nd, May 2008

looks like a top night out. about time there was somewhere decent to go in chester!!!

Simon commented on 2nd, May 2008

"Sorry no polo shirts"? Bouncers at this place are living in the past. Reminded me of the days when you couldnt get in anywhere in town without a shirt and trousers on. Nightclubs come and go in Chester, so dont get too excited, I give this one a year and 1 out of 5.

Can't wait to go.

i guess by the look of this place, rosies are finally going to have to convert their very over priced sweatbox shed into some form of nightclub to compete! i bet the bouncers wont be saying "sorry, not tonight lads" anymore!

i hope this place isnt full of students as many places around chetser ie rb's formally know as rosies is, causing chester people such as me being refused entry .

Sara commented on 23rd, April 2008

5 stars for the look of it on the pictures, just really hope that within a few weeks it hasn't turned into a dive & gets all grimey! Should be over 25's! But this is just what Chester needs.

Anna commented on 22nd, April 2008

This will definitely be the only 5-Star Bar/night Club in Chester. Hope a high standard is maintained. 'We are fed up with those that allow the hoody/baseball cap/boots/trainers and funny dresses'.

Nick commented on 17th, Febuary 2008

This is going to be the best bar/club in Chester when it opens in April 08.
